From the Ground Up XXV is a regional juried exhibition held in Las Cruses, New Mexico. It is a biannual show. The juror for this year was Kurt Weiser. The show was open to artists residing in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana (the Rocky Mountain region). The show runs from August 19th to October 15th, 2011. I was pleased to have a piece selected for this show, especially since one of my favorite artists was curating this show. Kurt Weiser is an amazing artist who china paints trompe l' oeil images on his sculptures. Rumor has it, that we might be able to meet Mr. Weiser at the Richard Notkin workshop in Montana. The piece that was accepted to the show was "Transformation; Hear No, See No, Speak No Evil." It is a tryptic that I made while I was in Japan last year. The butterflies have human like faces on one side and on the other side they are animal-like masks that cannot hear or see or speak.
